While there were aspects of this novel that were afraidd out of left field, there were others that were completely believable and downright terrifying.
The characters were a little flat for my liking but that is necessarily sacrificed when you start with the action and don’t let off the gas pedal until the end.

Konrath and it certainly did not disappoint. Purchase Afraid by Jack Kilborn. Quite a few likeable characters, even if they only lived for a little while. Before you begin to read, be sure your doors are locked and you have candles ready in case the lights go out.
So if you want the full backstory, I suggest reading all three any order before the fourth.

A small town is attacked by ‘red ops’, and only a few manage to defend themselves. What other book might you compare Afraid to and why? Rarely has Wisconsin been so intersting. A classified secret weapon programmed to kill anything that stands in its way.

All of the people in town were faced with such horrific choices that in most cases you had to choose the lesser of the evils. Realy It was not that out there as far as gore in horror stories go.
