Book One Jeff Irwin is short, timid, and studious. If you feel yourself dissuaded initially with Dumb Jock keep reading. Kirby is bullied because he is overweight, he is called “fag” because he is different. While Jeff felt very inferior at the beginning of their relationship he becomes more and more self-confident, Brett being literally the shoulder he can lean on. Showing of 45 reviews. I cried at more than one of these short stories. So everybody who fancies the typical jock-meets-nerd story, where after some erbo twists and turns they fall in love and have steaming hot sex 5 times a day, will be disappointed.
The quality of the writing was high and the use of the first person narrative was particularly effective in getting into the minds of the victims and the bullies. This wasn’t an easy book to read, but I pray that I will be strong enough to stand up for myself and others as a result of reading it. Whether it’s rage at the injustice of it all, hope that maybe it can get better, pity, compassion, or empathy You consider yourself a good bbullied, your mouth drops open when you hear of bullying, and you wonder, “How can anyone do that or allow that to happen?
It was well done, even if you want to smack the mother around which is the point. Bully victim Chase Devereaux finds an unexpected ally in a brave fellow student. Every story will remind you of yourself or someone you know. Brett is a junior and the talented quarterback everyone hopes will take the team to a state championship. I liked that the story highlighted that it’s not only straight people who can be complicit in bullying incidents.
This collection of short stories focuses on the lives of gay teens and how they deal with being bullied. I don’t think I’ll ever read an Erno book for escapism or fun but I can see the value in his writing now that I’ve been given a different perspective to see them from. We also learned a few things along the way. And though some of these moments were really emotional and I cried…boy did I cry!

These stories may be fiction, but they felt quite real to me. As a mother, it pains me to see our children kill themselves because of their sexuality.
I want more stories like these. First all these stories are true and written in a manner that will stimulate a wide range of emotions from anger to tears of joy. The ending might seem unrealistic, but in a perfect world you can hope all things end this buliled.

His stories are very real and deal with problems that are too real. And overweight Kirby finds the strength of character to make a friend, which leads to a lifestyle change and a chance at love.
But the kicker was the audiobook narration. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and human resources. I wish some were less inconceivable or seem so flat out impossible. This book is completely safe and people don’t have to eek in the middle of the book. Students must stay on campus during lunch. I can honestly say this is one powerful book.
These stories will make you smile, cry and nod your head as you recount memories from your time in high school. End of the Innocence. Apart from maybe two of these stories, the rest do not have romantic themes and there is no sex in the book.
