It felt like I was reading a travel guide instead of a novel. The end’s gorgeous, very emotional. Ok fine because shes 16 or 17 she can be an angsty girl but i still didn’t buy her “love” for the winterking given her mistrustful characteristics. Maerad is astonished to find Cadvan there. The characters travel between cities and villages but never stay in them for long. It got to the point where I wanted something important to happen and nothing did.
It contains, as a result, linguistic and historical appendices and guides which describe the politics of Edil-Amarandh, aspects of the Elidhuand the Treesong itself.
Oh, and let’s not forget he’s 21 years older than her. She lives in Melbourne.

I look forward to seeing what Hem and Saliman have been up to in the next book. Alison Croggon’s epic fantasy continues, as Macrad travels from terrifying seas to vast stretches of glacial wilderness; drawn ever closer to her enemy the Winterking, towards the author of her sorrows and the strongest ally of the Nameless One – the greatest tyrant of them all.

Her rambling path will help her learn more about her family and her powers, and eventually lead her into the lair of Arkan the Winterking himself. Also, Maerad does a lot of growing up in this novel that’s more tangible than book 1, where she faced such relatable challenges as being instated as a Bard and I’m still not sure what that meant.

This article’s plot summary may be too long or excessively detailed. Sep 14, Angeliki rated it it was amazing Shelves: I did find that was the case, but it also seemed like it took about pages before that plot actually began to pick up. Our characters are still wandering with no clear direction. Really five stars but I’m not sure I can reread it soon it was really gloomy at timeswhich is my criteria for five.
However at the completion of Darksaber, I decided to make myself a pile of books that I was to read. The wind lives, the snow lives, the ice lives, the mountains live. But the story never feels rushed, and leaves me simply wishing there was more. Ninth Grade Slays 2.
If you love epic fantasy, please read it! The Naming was beautifully written, but The Riddle takes place in a much broader variety of landscapes, and Croggon brings each of them alive so that you feel that you are there with the smells, sounds and sights. Conclusions When I finished The NamingI figured that Allison Croggon had established her universe and characters and could now move on to more exciting material.
